I Got My Dose of Project Runway

After Anya Ayoung’s victory for season 9, I was bummed because I needed to wait for another season. Another season, meaning months of waiting! But I heard Project Runway will have a spin-off. So, Project Runway All Stars came about. While watching teasers for the newest season, I saw some promising designers that I was rooting for, for the previous season like Mondo Guerra and Mila Hermanovsky. I was hoping for Maya Luz to be part of the season since her decision to drop out of the competition during her season. But maybe she will grace the next season of All Stars.

A big dismay for me was Tim Gunn’s exclusion to the latest season! Joanna Coles meanwhile filled in for Gunn’s shoes as the mentor to the All Stars. I just miss Tim Gunn’s presence on the show but Joanna also did an amazing job in guiding the designers do their A game. I was thrilled to see the gorgeous Georgina Chapman, the co-founder of Marchesa. Isaac Mizrahi was a host in Bravo TV’s The Fashion Show and I was a bit  intrigued to see him on the show as a juror. Moreover, the hosting stint was taken over by the equally beautiful supermodel, Angela Lindvall. In the end, I get it that all the judges and the mentor started with a clean slate since this is not just a new season but an All Stars season.

At large, the season really took a notch higher via tough and grueling challenges. One of which is a Project Runway first, the 6-hour challenge given by THE Diane Von Fursternburg, CFDA President and the queen of RTW. A half a million dollars worth of prizes awaits the winning designer. I was on Mondo’s team since the first day and gladly he became the victor of the very first season of Project Runway All Stars. I can’t wait for the next season!

Heaven Sent

Yesterday morning as I went home from work, I have not felt any exhaustion from the shift but a lot more nerves building up. Last August, I took my IELTS examination. And that day was the reaping of the harvest. My heart was beating like an 808 drum as I open my laptop. After several attempts to check the result, still no results have been shown. Then, I tried again. To my horror, I saw my scores. It was so surreal! I prepared for this for almost two months and an outcome of my preparation is this blog. This is like a validation that I do not just write simple nothings and that I can really write something.

My heartfelt gratitude to World English Reviews for honing my skills and for being so generous. I also owe this success to blogging and Wordpress for being a vehicle to my thought content. To all who prayed and helped pave way for this triumph, thank you! To God be the glory. Cheers!

No Other Print

Few days ago, I got a message from one of my trusted thrift stores, saying that they have new goodies for me! Wow, I got so excited but I got a little broke so I went 2 days after. There were really a lot great finds. My goodness!! So, I stood back and prioritize what should be bought first.

Initially, I was drawn away by the cardigan and a jacket. If only I have enough, I could have bought them. On my mind, I was thinking that I have a lot of jackets and I can not wear them all the time since it’s almost summer in the Philippines. Going back, I drew myself away and went on to other racks waiting to be unveiled. Thrift shopping is exciting!

Okay, so I got a little greedy and fitted 6 garments in one fitting session. However, only one stood out it is a sleeveless printed top. A snake-skin print for Kenny? Oh my, that is a first! Personally, I don’t go for these but this top got my attention and when I tried it on it really is a beauty! This top reminded be of Anne Curtis’ swimwear in the movie, No Other Woman where she and Cristine Reyes had a confrontation. This line by Cristine hit me, "Bikini mo ba iyan o balat mo?” (in Filipino). She said "Is that your bikini or your skin?”. Anne Curtis is rocking a pair of snake-skin bikini print during this scene. Cristine was squabbling against Anne for having an affair with her husband Derek. So snake is the word.

Having said that I am scared of animal prints but I braved myself and went out of my comfort zone. Hopefully I can rock this like Anne Curtis did. Haha. In a full ear to ear smile, I headed out of the store.

Total: 360 Pesos for the snake print top and another top.

Under Repair

I got these two straight cut pants a year ago from thrift shopping. I almost wanted to get rid of them because I don’t have enough space for my clothes. Yes, I need bigger space now for more goodies. Haha. However, the colors of these trousers are so in this season that it got me thinking that I can just have it repaired from an alteration store. At last today, I got them repaired and I will be picking them up at 3pm. Really, I am super excited about the fit and to incorporate them in my wardrobe. But when I tried them on, I don’t feel good about the bottom half of the pants. It needs to get skinnier so I sent them again for repair. Then, it fits impeccably. Thanks to Mr. Tailor.

The first one is a Lee Jeans straight cut trouser. It is in khaki brown and in stretch fabric. I don’t know what they call that fabric but I know it is a denim. So, this Lee jean can turn into a skinny one I told myself, as I instructed that for the tailor to do. The last one is a Uniqlo straight cut pant in moss green. For this one, I decided to go for like a chino or carrot pant finish.

If you happen to find a really good pair of pants from thrift shops but the fit is off, try it get repaired from your trusted tailor. You will get what you want at a reasonable cost and still having a customised fit. I rummage for pants with quality fabric and has a great fit from the waist so that you will still retain the design of the trouser. But whatever, you still are the ultimate decision maker.

These are how they look now and I am beyond elated with the result. I didn’t take pictures from the unaltered look.
